Hello everyone! I hope you all had a happy Wednesday :) Today, I have visited Wesley's Chapel and Bunhill Fields Burial Ground. Both are located walking distance from Old Street tube station and both are situated on the same street (City Road) and will be easy to find as on the other side of City Road, opposite Bunhill Fields, lies Wesley's Chapel and Museum. Bunhill Fields is the site of a small graveyard and Bunhill supposedly derives from Bone Hill. The list of burials in this small yard reads like a who's who of dissenters in London intellectual life - the visionary poet and painter Willian Blake, a Christian preacher and writer of The Pilgrim's Progress - John Bunyan, Daniel Defoe and others.
The chapel itself is worth seeing as a good example of early Methodist architecture - very beautiful Chapel. Downstairs is a museum dedicated to the world Methodist movement in the old Crypt and a souvenir and book shop. This beautiful Chapel is a great place to visit if you are interested in how people lived in 18th Century England.
Worth a visit - entrance free, but donation entirely merited.
Keep yourself happy!!!
Much love
